CALLAO, MO. -- A northeast Missouri woman admitted stealing nearly $120,000 from the City of Callao while she was city clerk there.

In federal court in St. Louis Tuesday, Lou Ann Allred, 60, of Callao entered a guilty plea to one count of mail fraud.

According to court records, the longtime Callao city clerk took cash payments for city services for her own use instead of depositing the money into city accounts.

Allred also admitted that she made city checks out to herself and forged the Callao mayor's signature on them.

The money was taken between 2004 and 2008.

Allred could be sentenced to up to 20 years in federal prison when she is sentenced on August 16.
