KIRKSVILLE, MO -- On Saturday, “Shoes for Orphans Souls” made a stop in Kirksville during the Chicken-Q. The Kirksville Rotary sponsored event has been traveling across northeast Missouri stopping in cities such as Kirksville, Lancaster, Moberly, Macon, and Memphis.
The organization has collected more than 18,000 pairs of shoes thus far, which will be shipped to Haiti by the end of May. Rotary District Chair of Shoes for Orphans Souls Larry Lunsford said the event has been a great success.
“Always is the case in our district in northeast Missouri that they have a fantastic showing from this project” Lunsford said. “We’re grateful to the Kirksville community, grateful to the other communities in northeast Missouri and looking forward to a lot of children that have new pair of shoes which is the reason we do this.”
Kirksville was stop number 18 on a list of 20. All of the shoes donated will be taken to Chillicothe. From there, UPS will take care of shipping to Kansas City and then to Dallas, Texas, before they go to Haiti.
This is the 9th consecutive year that the Kirksville Rotary Club has participated in “Shoes for Orphans Souls.”
