KIRKSVILLE, MO -- Brashear Park in Kirksville received a much needed facility on Friday. Texas based CXT Incorporated installed a brand new bathroom. On August 30, 2009, vandals set fire to the men’s restroom which caused complete damage to the facility. The new bathroom includes a men’s and women’s room which is made out of pre-cast concrete, making it flame retardant.
Kirksville resident Ed Carpenter said it was a shame that people would case damage to park property.
"It’s a facility that was so needed and that’s what makes it so senseless you know” said Carpenter. “It’s hard to keep things nice and that’s the biggest struggle in the community is keeping things nice."
Kirksville City Council approved the $44,880 project in November 2009. After plumbing is complete, workers feel the facility will be up and running in two weeks.
“You’d be surprised on how many people go to the park” said Carpenter. “It’s great to have a bathroom again for the people. On the weekends, Brashear Park is one of the most used for like family reunions and things like that.”
