JEFFERSON CITY, MO. (AP) - -- The Missouri Senate wants people to get their state tax refunds quickly this year.

The Senate voted 31-0 Tuesday to remind the governor and the Department of Revenue that state tax refunds should be paid promptly. There was no discussion on the measure, which is not legally binding. It must still be approved by the House.

Last year some taxpayers had to wait until midsummer for their 2008 tax refunds.

Sponsoring Sen. Brad Lager of Maryville said if Missourians are responsible enough to pay their taxes on time, the state should return any money they overpay as quickly as possible.
