OTTUMWA, IOWA -- Final preparations are being made for the president's visit to the city of bridges.
Because of President Obama's scheduled town hall meeting on campus, classes at Indian hills are canceled Tuesday. Secret Service has been in Ottumwa for several days and been in contact with local law enforcement.
Ottumwa Police Chief, Jim Clark, has worked with secret service in the past when politicians come to visit.
“The secret service has always been a great organization to work with,” said Clark. “We work with them regularly about every four years during the campaigning for the presidential election. They're a very professional organization yet they're very friendly too.”
The city of Ottumwa has not designated any area for protests; however, Clark says that should not be an issue.
“I don't anticipate [protests]. Ottumwans are not known for that. Regardless of what party they are, this is the president of the United States, and I think Ottumwans respect that and they're going to be very respectful of his visit.”
City officials and law enforcement have and will continue to be busy throughout the visit from the commander in chief.
“There will be things going on up to and through him being here obviously, but everything seems to be going real smooth and I don't anticipate any problems. I'm looking forward to the president of the United States coming to Ottumwa, Iowa.”
