AMES, IOWA (AP) -- Police in Ames say a woman in her early 20s has been hit and killed by a train near the Iowa State University campus.
Officers say the woman's body was discovered early Sunday morning in a grassy, wooded area near the Veenker Memorial Golf
Course, but they are not sure exactly when she was hit. Police say they are looking at Union Pacific Railroad schedules to see when trains move through the area.
They say the woman was out in the Campus Town area with friends late Saturday night and somehow became separated from the group. Friends and a police officer began a search and the officer found her body.
Police did not immediately release the victim's name or say why she may have been on the tracks.
