KIRKSVILLE, MO -- Third graders at Ray Miller Elementary in Kirksville got a taste of pioneer life on Friday. The students were rewarded for their hard work in preparing for MAP testing. Over the past few months, students read stories on pioneer life and cattle drives so the youngsters were allowed to dress up as cowboys and cowgirls and experience the old west for themselves.
Third grade instructional leader Molly Tuggle said the event has been going on for four years.
“We worked really, really hard to get ready for the MAP test” said Tuggle. “So this kind of ties into what we've been learning and just to have fun.”
Tuggle said the day consisted of Virginia Reel dancing, an old chuck wagon with artifacts from the 1800’s, auctioneers from La Plata, and a leatherwork station.
