DES MOINES, IOWA (AP) -- State investigators are looking into donations made to Gov. Chet Culver's re-election campaign by supporters of a Fort Dodge casino.

In a copyright story Monday in The Des Moines Register, Iowa attorney general spokesman Bob Brammer says the office is working with the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation on the matter.

The investigation is focusing on Dubuque-based Peninsula Gaming and three Fort Dodge casino supporters who contributed to Culver's campaign.

One contributor, Steve Daniel, says Peninsula paid him and two partners $25,000 for work on the gambling license application process. Culver's campaign records show the three donated $25,000 to the campaign.

Daniel says there is no link between the payment and the contribution.

It is illegal in Iowa to make or receive a political contribution in another's name.

The Culver campaign donated the money to charity after learning questions about the donation had been raised.
