KIRKSVILLE, MO. -- The Catholic Newman Center on the Truman State University campus has a new director. Chris Korte recently replaced Bettie Lesczynski who’s retiring after 23 years as director. Korte has worked at Mary Immaculate Parish in Kirksville for 10 years. There he was involved in youth and college age ministries.
He says the Newman Center is designed to be student led and he plans to help students grow in their faith and make sure things run smoothly.
“I’m just very excited about working with the group here and just know how much an impact this place makes on people, the friendships, the faith,” said Director of Campus Ministry Chris Korte.
Korte says one of his goals is to continue to work on the second phase of the building project. That includes adding a permanent worship space to the center. He says right now they just have a multi-purpose room and it will be nice to give students a place to go anytime to pray or simply gather with one another.
Korte says he’s proud of the students for all they do in the community and he looks forward to getting to know each of them better.
