KIRKSVILLE, MO. -- This week is National Public Health Week and Missouri's theme is A Healthier Missouri: One Community at a Time.
Adair County ranks 54th among Missouri's 115 counties in terms of health outcomes and 19th in terms of health factors.
Health officials are encouraging individuals to live a healthier lifestyle all year long but the focus is on this week.
“We are trying to educate the public on the importance of getting their recommended health screenings, eating healthy, maintaining a healthy weight, being tobacco free, and exercising more,” said Lori Guffey, R.N.
Guffey says the health department offers health screenings several times a week. Those screenings include cholesterol, blood sugar, vital signs, and more.
They’re offered each Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 8:00 a.m. to noon and from 12:30 p.m.-4:00 p.m.
