OTTUMWA, IOWA -- Indian Hills Community College will present its sixth annual Diversity Conference on Friday, April 16, in St. John Auditorium on the IHCC Ottumwa campus. There will be nearly 40 different sessions for those who attend, all related in some way to the issue of diversity.
The conference will run from 8a.m. to 4 p.m.
Recognized agencies and presenters will discuss diversity and its relationship to topics such as religion, health, age, education, disability, immigration, gender and the workforce.
There will be two keynote speakers. Rekha Basu will speak at 8:30 a.m. and Jessie Myles will speak at 1:00 p.m.
Basu has been a columnist for the Des Moines Register since 1991 and is a frequent keynote speaker on global affairs and race and gender issues.
Myles served as the Multicultural/Urban Education Project Director for the Nebraska Department of Education, Equal Opportunity Education Programs for 20 years. He travels extensively conducting workshops and seminars on multicultural education, cultural competency, race relations and other diversity- related issues.
Hours for Continuing Education Units may be earned for some of the workshops at the conference. Registration is $15 and includes lunch. All students with a current student ID will be admitted for $5.
