DES MOINES, IOWA (AP) -- The Iowa Department of Revenue director says he has fewer staff as tax season arrives.

Director Mark Schuling says the department doesn't have funds to hire temporary workers this year. But Schuling says the agency will "work hard" to make sure that process times for tax returns don't grow.

The department says about 75 percent of Iowa taxpayers file electronic state income taxes. Those online filers should receive their refunds within two weeks, while the department says filers who use mail should receive refunds within at least four weeks.

Schuling says the department is moving workers from other positions to make sure tax returns are processed.
