MORAVIA, IOWA -- The Moravia Fire Department opened their doors and invited people into their new facility this afternoon.
Fact Finder talked with Moravia Fire Chief John Hauser and he said they were crammed in the old facility, both with vehicles and meeting space.
Hauser said their crew doubled from 10 to 20 emphasizing the need for a larger meeting area and kitchen.
“We had five trucks in there and it was crowded and we needed more room and our meeting room grew smaller because we no have 20 firemen where we used to have 10,” said Hauser.
Hauser told Fact Finder the new facility was funded via $30,000 grant from the USDA, a $70,000 loan from the USDA, and $30,000 from the fire departments own pockets.
Hauser called the facility a “great asset for the community for a long time.”
The community pitched in too. They stocked the kitchen by holding a Pampered Chef party.
