DES MOINES, IOWA (AP) -- Gov. Chet Culver says 15 Iowa counties affected by January's severe winter storm have been added to the Presidential Disaster Declaration granted early this month.
The additions bring the total number of counties covered by the declaration to 27. Culver announced the additions Thursday and said the declaration will be critical in helping affected areas recover from the storm.
The counties added to the declaration Thursday are: Adams, Boone, Buena Vista, Cherokee, Clay, Dallas, Emmet, Greene, Hardin, Ida, Monona, Palo Alto, Pocahontas, Story and Union.
This declaration provides assistance to state and local governments and certain private nonprofit organizations for emergency work and the repair or replacement of disaster-damaged facilities.
