KIRKSVILLE, MO --

The search is on for new leadership at the Adair County Family YMCA.

After more than two years in the position, Executive Director Lance Dempsay resigned effective last Friday.

Dempsay tells KTVO that although the resignation was sudden, he was not asked to resign.

“No, the whole thing just was a culmination of thinking on my part with my wife, my family, and so it was actually in the process for a few weeks, so it wasn't as sudden as it may have appeared,” Dempsay said.

Dempsay says he resigned to pursue three or four professional opportunities that are in the works. He would not elaborate, but says he is hoping to stay in the Kirksville area.

He says he is proud of what was accomplished at the YMCA under his direction. That includes receiving a $100,000 grant and making improvements to the facility inside and out.

The Board of Directors is looking for a new leader. The search committee hopes to fill the position within 90 days. The necessary qualifications will be posted at the YMCA.
