ELDON,IOWA -- Eldon’s American Gothic Days June 11-13, 2010 are fast approaching with a Craft Show and American Gothic House Art Contest ready and waiting for crafters and artists to sign up. Both events are free and offer a great opportunity to display and sell your work.
Gothic Area Tourism of Eldon (G.A.T.E.) invites all crafters to display downtown near the “Rock” park on Saturday, June 12 from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. There is no charge to set up; however vendors need to furnish their own table for display. For more information, contact Shirley Stacey at 641-652-3339.
American Gothic House Center and G.A.T.E. join together to sponsor the fifth annual American Gothic House Art Contest. The art contest celebrates the American Gothic House used as the background in Grant Wood’s most famous painting American Gothic. Entries must include the American Gothic House in their work. The contest serves to promote greater awareness of the little white house with its gothic window.
Submitted work will be returned. Minimum size is 8” x 10”—no maximum size, and may be any medium except photography. Contest is open to artists in the following divisions:
Kindergarten through Fifth Grade
Sixth Grade through Eighth Grade
Ninth Grade through Twelfth Grade
Adult Amateur
Adult Professional (makes an income from sale of their art work)
Prize money in the amount of $40 for 1st place and $20 for 2nd place will be awarded for each division, for a total of $300 in prize money—the same amount awarded to Grant Wood when he won third place for American Gothic.
Judging will take place Friday, with the exhibition planned for Saturday, June 12 from 11 am to 5 pm and Sunday, June 14 from 1 to 4 pm at the American Gothic House Center in Eldon, Iowa. Artwork must be delivered by June 9 with a completed entry form.
