FAIRFIELD, IOWA -- With time winding down Iowa legislators have one week left to pass bills this session.

One item bill they want to iron out is the texting bill.

Fact Finder talked with Iowa Representative Curt Hanson, (D) Fairfield, about the current state of the bill.

Hanson told Fact Finder the two sides are pulling together and the current proposed bill calls for all young drivers with a graduate’s license to be banned from using any hand held devices.

All drivers will be banned from texting.

Hanson told Fact Finder there is debate over texting while driving should be a primary or secondary offense.

"I am going to have to talk to Senator Danielson about what problems we have, how we are going to resolve these and  how do we act quickly in the Iowa legislature because this is something the public has contacted many, many of us about,” said Hanson.”

Hanson told Fact Finder there will be a one year education period in which there will be a public campaign and no tickets will be issued.
