FAIRFIELD, IOWA -- One Fairfield resident is telling voters to just vote no in an upcoming referendum.
Jerry Nelson is creating a vote no group against the Fairfield school board's proposals for remodeling projects. Nelson has been to school board meetings about the high school and says spending has gotten out of hand.
“Everybody I've talked to since this has come out is against it too,” Nelson said. “It can be done cheaper and piece of it at a time. It doesn't have to all be done like this and we don't need the new building."
So with many so objections to spending why doesn't Nelson run for school board?
"I've been asked before if I wanted to. That part I'm not really interested in. I can stand back away from it and I think I can see things better being away from it.”
Nelson currently has no children in the school district.
KTVO spoke with Fairfield superintendent Don Achelpohl. He said he wants all voters to look at the schools website to inform themselves before voting in April.
