The campaign season is picking up again throughout Southeast Iowa.
OTTUMWA, IOWA -- On Tuesday evening, Bob Vander Plaats visited Ottumwa on a campaign stop.
Vander Plaats is seeking the Republican nomination for Governor. Throughout his career, Vander Plaats has been a teacher, basketball coach, high school principal, and businessman.
In 2006, he was the Republican nominee for Iowa Lieutenant Governor.
Last Wednesday, former Presidential Candidate Mike Huckabee endorsed Vander Plaats' bid for Iowa Governor. And on Tuesday night, he spoke with Ottumwans about many issues ranging from same-sex marriage to lowering unemployment in the state.
"We need a vibrant economy if we are going to create good jobs. And recognize the positive ripple effect off of that, which would be: great schools, great access to Health Care, the amenities that we all would want to have. But you need to have a CEO today who knows how to manage government; to get the government that we want, get results with excellence but under economic integrity. And I think that is what I bring to the table," Vander Plaats told KTVO.
The primary election is set to take place on June 8th.
