COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) -- Missouri farmers with concentrated animal feeding operations can learn about changes to the state's permit requirements in a series of workshops.

The University of Missouri's commercial agriculture program scheduled the sessions for Tuesday in Dexter; Thursday in Macon and Mexico; Friday in Trenton; and next Monday in Sedalia and Eldon.

Nearly 600 animal feeding operations in Missouri hold CAFO permits.

New state rules require many permitted operations to develop a nutrient management plan. And some CAFOs will now need federal pollution discharge permits rather than state discharge permits.
