OTTUMWA, IOWA -- Farmers from across the heartland gathered Saturday at the Cornbelt Cow-Calf Conference.

The 39th annual conference leaves the farmers better educated in various fields relating to cows.

A number of guest speakers presented over topics ranging from optimizing health, providing better feed, using dogs to heard cattle, and reproduction strategies.

Organizers report the number of cattle farmers is lower than the past, but they are more intense with their work and operate larger farms.

“Today we have a series of speakers talking about cow-calf related projects and fields of interest.  We also have a full exhibit show going on with about 80 exhibitors.  It's a full day of entertainment and education,” said Darrell Limkeman, Chairman Cornbelt Cow-Calf Conference.

Live animals and demonstrations were all part of the day's events.
