IOWA CITY, IOWA (AP) -- A state commission says Iowa should limit, regulate and educate but don't ban Everclear and other highly concentrated alcohol.
The Iowa Alcoholic Beverages Commission made those recommendations on Thursday to Administrator Lynn Walding at a public forum at the University of Iowa.
The debate about Everclear began after a drinking incident that put a Drake University student in the hospital with alcohol poisoning in November.
Everclear sold in Iowa is 151 proof, meaning it's about 75 percent alcohol.
The commission was against a total ban of Everclear, but recommended to restrict all products over 100 proof to one size and to limit Everclear to the three-quarter-liter size.
