JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) -- Missouri House members are considering legislation that would require state environmental officials to publish water quality testing data within three days of collecting samples.
The legislation is to be debated Thursday by a House committee responsible for state parks and waterways. It is sponsored by Republican House member Anne Zerr, of St. Charles.
The Department of Natural Resources was the target of criticism last year after it took about a month to release test results showing high E. coli bacteria levels in the Lake of the Ozarks. The controversy prompted a Senate probe into the environmental agency.
