JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) -- Daytona 500 winner Jamie McMurray is bringing his race car to the Missouri Capitol today at 9 a.m.

The Joplin native was being honored by politicians Thursday for his victory in NASCAR's biggest race earlier this month.

McMurray planned to park his race car on the south side of the Capitol for Gov. Jay Nixon's declaration of Thursday as "Jamie McMurray Day" in Missouri. McMurray also is to receive special recognition in the Missouri House and Senate.

McMurray held off Dale Earnhardt Jr. to win his first Daytona 500 on Feb. 14.
