DES MOINES, IOWA (AP) -- Very cold temperatures and a brisk winds are making for a raw day across Iowa as arctic high pressure settles over the region.
Early Wednesday, temperatures ranged from 9 below zero in Sheldon in northwest Iowa to 14 above in Clinton in the east.
The National Weather Service says wind chill readings were near 30 below zero north of Interstate 80.
Highs on Wednesday are forecast to be only in the teens, which is about 25 degrees below normal. An even colder night is expected, with lows dropping to around 12 below by early Thursday.
