DES MOINES, IOWA (AP) -- The Iowa Legislature will set up a committee to look at the issue of medical marijuana.

House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy says if the committee comes up with a workable plan, lawmakers could discuss the issue during the 2011 session.

Last week, the Iowa Board of Pharmacy unanimously recommended that the Legislature legalize marijuana for medical uses.

McCarthy, a Des Moines Democrat, says the board's recommendation means the issue deserves consideration. House Minority Leader Kraig Paulsen, a Hiawatha Republican, says he has no objections.

Fourteen states have legalized medical marijuana.
