KIRKSVILLE, MO -- Kirksville county leaders gathered at the Adair County Annex on Friday for Government in Focus, presented by the Kirksville area Chamber of Commerce. The series focused on the State of the County Address. Members of the Adair County Commission shared accomplishments of 2009 and goals for 2010.
Presentations were given by the Adair County Health Department, Adair County Ambulance District, Twin Pines Adult Care Center, Adair County Public Library, Senate Bill 40, Adair County Sheriff’s Department, and the Adair County Public Water Supply District.
County officials said they are looking to be more efficient to hurdle over recent funding cuts and inflation in 2010.
Among the presenters was Sheriff Bob Hardwick. Hardwick stated that in 2009 the Adair County Sheriff’s Department utilized $100,000 less than the approved $1,765,952 budget.
“This year we’re purchasing one new pick up truck and one new cargo van” said Hardwick. “The cargo van is going to have a transport cell that slides into the back of the van so we can haul more prisoners and inmates to cut down on the amount of trips.” The Adair County Sheriff’s Department believes this van will not only help their department, but cut down on transportation costs.
The next Government in Focus series will be held on Friday, March 19, and will cover the State of the District.
