KIRKSVILLE, MO --

Plans are underway for the South 63 Corridor Community Improvement District.

The corridor includes Highway 63 south of La Harpe Street and all of the businesses in the shopping center.

The committee has been formed and the next step is asking the county clerk for an election.

“That would establish an additional one cent sales tax for that shopping area, the county clerk will then be responsible for sending out those ballots to the property owners, and the property owner really is in essence the Missouri Department of Transportation and the owners of the shopping center,” said Mari Macomber, Board of Directors Chairwoman.

That election will take place in April. If passed, the sales tax revenue will be used to make street and landscaping improvements to the corridor.
