KAHOKA, MO -- Funeral services were held Saturday for a Clark County Sheriff's Deputy.
Flags were flying at half-staff Saturday in Clark County as they said farewell to a member of their law enforcement. Deputy Sheriff Don McCutcheon, 36, passed away on Monday after suffering a heart attack shortly after shoveling snow off the front steps of the sheriff’s office.
Memphis police officer Dale Lyman said McCutcheon was a prime example of what a police officer should be.
“Always professional and very caring. He was an inspiration to the other officers around him” said Lyman. “If other officers were having a bad day the man always had the ability to cheer you up. He had such a wonderful sense of humor and exemplified the word of being a police officer.”
After graduating from the Missouri Sheriff's Department, officer McCutcheon joined the Memphis Police Department in June 2008. He then transferred to the Clark County Sheriff's Department in February 2009.
“In a world where good cops are few and far between, Don was a good cop” said Memphis Police Chief John Myers.
More than 75 officers from different police departments throughout Missouri showed up to pay their respects. Donations for McCutcheon’s family are being taken at the Scotland County Sheriffs Department in Memphis, Missouri. He is survived by three children.
