MACON, MO --

Authorities have caught a suspect in the burglary of the First Baptist Church in Macon.

Petty cash was stolen when the church was broken into on December 28th. It turns out the accused burglar was already behind bars in another county.

“Through the investigation, a video surveillance system in the area of the church was located and a suspect was observed on that video, which led to an investigation also into Shelby County, Missouri,” said Asst. Chief Jeff Brown, Macon Police Department.

Daniel Spotts, 47, of Keytesville, Missouri, was being held in the Shelby County Jail for attempting to break into a church in Shelbina.

He is now facing charges of second degree burglary and stealing in Macon County. Spotts remains in the Shelby County jail on $16,000 bond.
