KIRKSVILLE, MO --

It was a big day for students in the Army ROTC program at Truman State University.

Eight new cadets made a commitment to the U.S. Army in a ceremony at Reiger Armory. Upon graduating and completing the ROTC program at Truman, the cadets will be 2nd  lieutenants.

“Before today they were just like any other student walking around Truman State University. They'll continue to be Truman students and students first but now they will be picking up the extra training opportunity, leadership development opportunity and training to become commissioned officers in the United States Army,” said Lt. Col. Eric Shirley, Professor of Military Science.

The new cadets will join the 60 others in the ROTC program. They had to meet a number of administrative and physical requirements to make the official commitment to the army.
