MACOMB, ILL. (AP) -- Police said the suspected gunman at a western Illinois farm supply store is dead, and the standoff is over.
Macomb Police Chief Curt Barker said Jonathan Labbe, 19, of Tennessee, Illinois died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound and was found in the house wares section of the Farm King store in Macomb Wednesday evening.
Barker said police don't know a motive, but Labbe is not believed to be associated with the store.
No one else was injured.
Authorities said Labbe did not hold hostages, but some employees and customers were afraid to leave the building during the standoff.
Witnesses said it all started around 1 p.m.
Richard Moulton said he was buying a battery charger at the store when someone in an aisle nearby began arguing and shouting.
Seconds later, he heard about four or five gunshots, and he and some other customers ran from the store.
KTVO sister station, KHQA TV, reports five people were taken out of Farm King, put into what appeared to be a tactical response vehicle and taken to the nearby HyVee store. Two other people left the building earlier in the afternoon.
