KIRKSVILLE, MO. -- The Adair County Enhanced Enterprise Zone Advisory Board meets to finalize its application to become an EEZ.
The board decided what tax abatement TradeWind Energy will receive if the company builds turbines in Adair County.
The board chose a minimum of 50 percent abatement with a maximum of 60 percent.
Adair County wants to be competitive with Sullivan County which is already designated an EEZ. Sullivan County has the same abatement Adair County is proposing.
“To be competitive on getting industry to come into the county we need to be competitive with our abatement program,” said Enhanced Enterprise Zone Advisory Board Member Harold Harden.
TradeWind says it will employ between 10 and 15 employees with a payroll of nearly $750,000 a year during construction.
The company says Adair County will make an estimated $18 million during construction from lodging and food for workers and supply costs.
The ultimate decision to approve the application before it’s sent to the state is up to the county commissioners.
A public hearing is set for March 9th at 5:30 p.m. in the Annex building.
