MACON, MO. -- Northeast Missouri authorities are trying to solve two church break-ins.

They both happened in Macon. The most-recent burglary took place late Friday night or early Saturday morning at Crossroads Christian Church along Highway 63 on the north edge of Macon.

Pastor Matt Stieger discovered the crime Saturday afternoon when his office door wouldn't shut properly.

He told KTVO three church office doors had been forced open, and whoever did it stole several hundred dollars from a youth fund.

He said the cash was kept in a desk in one of the offices.

"There's no sign of forcible entry. Nothing was damaged upon entry to the church, but most likely we're thinking they came in through the kitchen. You know, it's right there by the offices where everything happened," said Stieger.

The kitchen door is located on the back side of the building.

Stieger said the door knob and latch on the kitchen door had previously been damaged so it wouldn’t have been that difficult for an intruder to get it open.

That problem has since been fixed.

Macon Police Chief Steve Olinger said they have no leads or suspects in this past weekend's break-in.

Detectives are also investigating a burglary at Macon's First Baptist Church that happened just before Christmas 2009.

Cash was also taken during that break-in.

Olinger said the crimes are similar, but the time of day that each occurred is different, making him think different people might be involved in the two burglaries.

Olinger said witnesses have provided information about suspects in the break-in at First Baptist Church. No arrests have been made.

No witnesses have come forward in connection with the burglary at Crossroads Christian Church.

If you have any information about either crime, you're asked to call the Macon Police Department.
