Heartland residents had the opportunity to enjoy local artwork at Main Street Ottumwa.
OTTUMWA, IOWA -- Main Street Ottumwa, an organization dedicated to historical preservation and urban revitalization, hosted its first Artists Reception in the downtown area this weekend.
The evening, which included a wine and cheese reception, offered a chance for citizens to meet with local artists, Margit Trautmann and Misao Fishwick, and see their work.
Cindy Woodbury, the Executive Director of Main Street Ottumwa, said that the arts cover a lot of ground, whether in paintings or architectural detail.
"It all goes hand-in-hand to the quality of life that we are able to have in downtown Ottumwa. As we restore the historical buildings we also want to restore that cultural and historical feeling of the quality of life, which is a wonderful part of living in a community like Ottumwa," Woodbury said.
She added that the Artists Reception was a way to bring local talent and the community together and to showcase all that downtown and Main Street Ottumwa has to offer.
