DES MOINES, IOWA. (AP) -- More than 9,000 Iowans are still without power from this week's ice storm.
Utility officials say it could be five more days before the lights are back on for everyone. Some residents have already gone five days without power. Thick ice has coated the state, snapping power lines and trees.
As of Sunday afternoon, more than 9,000 customers with the Iowa Association of Electric Cooperatives were without power. Western and central Iowa were hit hardest. Spokesman Allen Urlis says warmer temperatures are helping crews make progress.
MidAmerican Energy expects to have power fully restored by late Sunday. About 15,000 MidAmerican customers had lost electricity by Friday. And Alliant Energy restored power to its customers by Saturday.
