LABELLE, MO. -- Two northeast Missouri residents face multiple charges of tax evasion.

The Lewis County Sheriff’s Office arrested 50-year-old Lloyd Smith and 45-year-old Kristin Smith, both of LaBelle, Mo., on Friday. Each is charged with 18 counts of tax evasion—2 counts of failing to file a tax return and 16 counts of filing false returns. All the charges are unclassified felonies and each carries a maximum five year sentence.

The Smith’s own Bubba and Doc’s Bar and Grill in LaBelle. The investigation by the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office and the Missouri Department of Revenue began last February.

The Smith’s are both currently free on bond.
