Road plowing continued for the second day following Wednesday's ice storm across the Heartland.
OTTUMWA, IOWA -- While the main roads and highways in Southeast Iowa have been cleared of the ice patches by Thursday, the focus turned to clearing the secondary roads in the rural areas of the county.
KTVO spoke with Wapello County Engineer Brian Moore about the challenges his crews have faced with this recent ice storm.
"Actually I think we got lucky this time, just kind of normal road conditions. We had a little bit of ice refreezing this morning. So we sent the trucks back out for some spots. Most of the rain we got [Wednesday] turned to slush so we were able to get it off the roadways yesterday," Moore said.
He added that most secondary roads have been cleared enough to allow for two-wheel drive, but said that it is important to still remain vigilant of all road conditions during winter weather.
"Ice is always more difficult. Luckily [Wednesday's storm] came in the form of slush for the most part so it was easier. And temperatures have stayed warmer which have helped," Moore said.
