DES MOINES, IOWA (AP) -- Thousands of Iowans are still without power and dozens of schools are closed again after a storm brought ice to the state.

Thick ice coated the state on Wednesday, snapping power lines and trees.

MidAmerican Energy reported Thursday morning that nearly 22,000 customers were still without power, with more than 9,000 in the Des Moines area, and about 5,500 in both the Sioux City and Quad Cities area.

Alliant Energy had outages statewide, with 5,000 customers affected in east central Iowa.

In Des Moines, Iowa's largest school district was closed for a second day.

Iowa had already endured three major snow storms this winter, and there's still more than 2 feet of snow on the ground in some areas.
