KIRKSVILLE, MO. -- The Enhanced Enterprise Zone Advisory Board met Tuesday afternoon to go over the application process to enable Adair County to become an EEZ.
If the application is approved, businesses in Adair County could seek tax abatements.
Right now the abatements will be at least 50 percent for ten years. Businesses will also have to employ 10-15 workers at a wage specified in the application.
The board wants to make the requirements strict for businesses to receive the tax break. “We want businesses, but we want to have some control over what business we feel would be good for our area and be able to say yes or no,” said EEZ Board Chairman Mary Farwell.
The board plans to meet one more time in two weeks to finish the application.
Then it will have a public hearing in March and the County Commission will submit the finished application to the state.
