KIRKSVILLE, MO --

Local residents are sticking to their resolutions and working off those extra pounds at the gym. It’s been a full house at the Adair County Family YMCA since it reopened after the holidays.

“Since Monday we've had like 75 new members. Our fitness classes are booming again, and we're getting a lot of sign ups for our youth basketball program, and other programs so it's really getting busy and we're excited about it,” said Executive Director Lance Dempsay.

The YMCA is hoping to have a total of 100 new members signed up by the end of the week.

If you wanted to participate in the YMCA’s “Get Fit Challenge” it's not too late. The registration deadline has been extended until Friday, January 8. Teams of two will compete for the highest percentage of weight loss. The winners will receive an all expenses paid trip to Branson.
