KTVO has learned there have been layoffs at one of Kirksville’s newest industries.

Wi-Fi Industries, which recently bought the Hollister building on the south side of Kirksville, has laid off a number of employees.

Sources have confirmed the layoffs, however, when we called Wi-Fi Tuesday afternoon, we were told plant manager David Fuhr was out of town and no one at the facility was willing to talk to us about any layoffs.

Wi-Fi received a one million dollar low interest loan from the state of Missouri, the loan was based on Wi-Fi creating 40 new jobs at the Kirksville location. As a matter of fact, Missouri Governor Jay Nixon was in Kirksville back on July 30th to personally deliver a ceremonial one million dollar check. No local incentives were involved in attracting the company to Kirksville.

The exact number of employees laid off and the expected length of lay off are not known.
