KIRKSVILLE, MO. -- KTVO has learned a way you can give back to your community and help those in need while also getting a large tax credit.

The Missouri Domestic Violence Shelter Tax Credit is available to any Missouri tax payer that donates at least $100 to a qualified shelter.

The program is offering a 50% tax credit off of your income tax liability.

We went to Victim Support Services in Kirksville where officials say they need donations now more than ever.

"The economic stressors we have are increasing the services that we provide right now and the need for the services that we provide right now, so we're seeing more people than ever with less money than ever, so it's really important to get those cash donations for us," said Victim Support Services Executive Director Kim LeBaron.

LeBaron says they can accept cash, stocks, bonds and other marketable securities.

For more information and to find out how you can apply for the tax credit visit www.dps.state.mo.us or call 1-888-394-6377.
