KIRKSVILLE, MO --

The Kirksville Salvation Army is seeing to it that area kids get a visit from Santa this year.

The Salvation Army held its Christmas Food and Toy Distribution Friday. Local families who signed up received grocery gift cards and a toy and stocking stuffers for the kids. Most of the toys were donated by the Freedom of Road Riders.

“This is one of those days where you can see the good and you can see the bad in people and more times than not as a person is leaving with the toys for their kids or even just the gift card and the certificate for the meat at Hy-Vee, I've seen a couple wipe the tear from their eye, or say ‘Can I give you a hug, this is really fantastic, you don't know how much this means to us,” said Major Bill Hogg, Kirksville Salvation Army.

The Salvation Army helped 350 families this Christmas. That's 50 more than last year.
