OTTUMWA, IOWA -- Fewer buildings and teachers might be in the cards for Ottumwa students.
And their parents may see higher taxes.
In a press release issued Wednesday, Ottumwa School Superintendent Jon Sheldahl says the ditrict has managed to meet the 10 percent budget cut ordered by Iowa Governor Chet Culver.
Sheldahl lauded the district's employees for making the tough decisions for this year.
But according to Sheldahl, what worked this year, won't work next year.
In the statement, Sheldahl warns that the district could cut nearly 18 employees, close an attendance center and still not meet next year's budget.
The school boss says taxpayers should be prepared for a tax increase.
KTVO will continue to follow this developing story.
