DES MOINES, IOWA (AP) -- Questions about how Iowa managed its tax credit program for filmmakers has drawn plenty of attention, but the cost of similar efforts also have increased, often with limited oversight.

A Des Moines Register review of some of the state's biggest tax credit incentives found concerns about runaway costs, lack of
transparency and waste.

Several lawmakers say they hope some of the credits will ultimately prove their worth when state agency heads complete a
review of the programs later this year. Democratic Sen. William Heckroth of Waverly says many of the credits are supporting the type of jobs Iowa wants.

Meetings will be held on the topic this week, prompted by questionable spending and bookkeeping by the Iowa Film Office.
