If convicted, two Missouri women facing federal charges in connection with the March 2006 shooting death of an Adair County man could face the death penalty.

According to federal court documents, Kay Young, 55, of Novinger and Katherine Mock, 55, of Cassville, Missouri are both charged with one count of murder for hire and one count of conspiracy to commit murder for hire.

The indictment alleges the two women conspired in the death of Young's husband, Melvin Griesbauer.

Adair County Sheriff's deputies were called to the Griesbauer/Young residence on Penny Royal Road just outside Novinger, Missouri on March 23, 2006, where they found Griesbauer dead of a gunshot wound to the head.

Documents filed in federal court in Saint Louis indicate prosecutors are looking into the possibility of asking for the death penalty in the case. The final decision is up to U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder, and no decision has yet been made.
