GREEN CITY, MO. -- The threat of a big snowstorm prompted a lot of area schools to dismiss early Tuesday or cancel classes altogether.
Most southeast Iowa districts in our viewing area didn't even have school.
By noon, more than two dozen districts had contacted KTVO to announce they were letting classes out early.
Green City Schools were among those.
They got out at 12:45 p.m.
Superintendent Donnie Campbell told KTVO several people are involved in the decision to dismiss early, but they try to keep the news under wraps until the last possible minute.
"We try not to announce it real quick because once we announce it, the school day is over. (laughter) Reporter: "They go crazy?" Campbell: "Yes, especially the elementary, but I think sometimes maybe the teachers as well. They're excited about getting to go home early," said Campbell.
Campbell says when deciding to dismiss early, they keep an eye on hour-by-hour forecasts, consult with the district's transportation director and check with other area schools to see what they're doing.
