KIRKSVILLE, MO --

Despite the below freezing temperature Saturday morning, local athletes got in the Christmas spirit at the 26th Annual Reindeer Romp in Kirksville.

A record turnout of 141 participants ran a four mile race or 1.5 fun walk. The event was a fundraiser for A.T. Still University, as well as a food drive for the Salvation Army. Those who brought in canned goods received a discount on their entry fee.

“What we're hoping to do is generate about 35 to 40 cases of food. We also have some cash donations that we'll share with the Salvation Army, kind of the idea that get in the spirit of the season, do something really healthy for yourself as well as contribute to the common good of the community,” said Race Director Dan Martin.

All participants received a shirt, jingle bells, and hot drinks after the chilly race. Allen Goans and Courtney Michel were the winners of the four mile run.

Marietta Squire and Levi Moore finished first in the fun walk.
