NOVINGER, MO. -- A Novinger, Mo., man faces felony charges after authorities say he injured a child.

Daniel Howe, 36, is charged with child abuse or an alternative charge of endangering the welfare of a child. Both are class c felonies. Howe is being held at the Adair County Jail on $25,000 cash only bond.

Authorities say that last week Howe knowingly inflicted cruel and inhuman punishment upon a child under the age of 17 by hitting the child with a leather belt, leaving abrasions and bruising on the child's skin. Court documents also allege that Howe slapped the child in the neck.

A restraining order has been filed on behalf of the victim. A hearing on that order of protection is scheduled for Dec. 15.
